"One thing I have been wondering is whether any agency or research group has figured any way of making even a rough guess as to how much buying of U. S. stocks by investors outside this country is taking place."

Sunday to Thursday at about 4 pm PST Yahoo puts out a release called "Foreigners Net Buyers/Sellers of Japanese Stocks via 11 Firms" - something like that, I just looked on Yahoo and couldn't find any old ones. Figures like this on US stocks would be quite useful, but I suspect the data would be more difficult to collect, with more exchanges and more firms involved. I bet it's available, though, if you pay for it. And valuable - it's the flow that counts - the rate of flow, and the direction of the current.
