Off Topic II............Newt Gingrich was in town last night at a fund raiser for Greg Ganske, Rep., Ia. and also campaigning for the y2k presidency. That's got to be the ultimate "how soon they forget" insult. There is a story going around how Newt and Rush Limbaugh both belong to an exclusive Washington D.C. crossdressers' club. Somebody got a picture of them together in intimate compromise (at least, that's how the story goes). Personally, I don't believe a word of it. But then, I don't believe a word of the Monica scandal, either. Now, it is coming out that Monica's visits to the white house were to see the secretary and not the pres. It just won't stop. It seems as though this thing is being fed a daily dose by a group of radio talk show hosts, growing larger and larger. It also appears that this group is affiliated with one very large radio station megalopoly, Jacor Communications(JCOR). Jacor owns just about all the talk radio stations in the country. Now, it also is quite possible that this thing is being fed by the republican national committee. Maybe there is a conspiracy. After all, sex sells.

G'nite, all.

>> In this regard, Ron, I'll give you a chance to win back that bourbon and water by predicting that the next President of the USA will John McCain. Double or nothing?
Why McCain? Because he is going to make campaign finance reform the big issue, his issue, and Americans WANT campaign finance reform. <<

I am as big a believer in campaign finance reform as anyone. But John McCain being a supporter of campaign finance reform is the biggest hypocrisy I can imagine. I saw him on TV spouting his newly acquired views on this issue the other day and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

You see I have some personal knowledge of Mr. McCain's ACTIONS (as opposed to words) on this matter. My father-in-law ran against McCain in the Republican primaries when McCain won the very first time he ran for U.S. Congress (1980 or 1981). McCain had never held or even run for public office prior to this. There were a total of 3 candidates running against McCain in this primary. All 3 of them were upstanding members of the community. In my father-in-law's case he had just finished out his term (after 12 years) as a Arizona State Senator to run for the U.S. Congressional seat John Rhodes was vacating.

Well along comes Mr. McCain who decides he will now make the Phoenix area his home (and what a coincidence, just in time to have the required length of residency to get on the ballot). The word among the other candidates' camps was that McCain had been SENT here by some high power folks in Washington to win the election. A definite FACT of all this is that McCain spent more on his campaign than ALL THREE of the other candidates COMBINED (and the source of his funds was primarily from OUT OF STATE). So you may now see why I see it as very funny that Mr. McCain is now a loud voice for campaign finance reform. Do you think I am sour grapes about this? Nah, he BOUGHT the election fair and square. <VBG> It was then that I saw how this country really operates and it was a very eye opening and heartwrenching experience for me as well as my family.

Oh, one other thing, did I mention who one of McCain's big contributors was here in Arizona? Well it was a fellow most of you probably have heard of: Charles Keating. This is the one thing that will keep Mr. McCain from reaching the White House IMO. If he ever has the nerve to run I suspect you will be hearing alot more about this relationship.

Bottom line.....I wouldn't bet anything more than a few drinks that you will see Mr. McCain in the White House.

Regards,
Bob
P.S. I normally try not to post off topic but this hit so close to home I felt the need. My apologies.
