1998 improving for the domestic TV industry according to Sony representative in this weeks "Consumer Electronics":

"......As for 1998, he said industry color TV conditions thus far have improved. "Through February 13, the direct view and TV/VCR category combined has recorded an impressive 16% increase over prior year, this with the healthiest industry inventories in several years," Palumbo said. He added that he expects trends to continue, resulting in slight growth for the industry in 1998 to 25 million units, "with the big-screen 27"-36" category leading the charge."

Similarly, he said the big-screen projection category is off to a strong 20% increase. "This while inventories are at their lowest levels in over three years," he added.Palumbo predicted the projection TV category growing almost 2% to almost 930,000 units, with the 50" and above screen sizes gaining the largest growth....."
