Perhaps the statement refers to another criteria besides 0-50 mph
acceleration. Anyway, the Solectria pickup truck came closest to
that goal, at 18.8 seconds, while the BAT Geo took 23.8 seconds.
At least one of the vehicles in the 1997 test was able to meet and
exceed the acceleration goal, and this would tend to set a bench
mark for BAT to shoot at. If the 1994 tests proved anything, it was
that lead acid batteries are too heavy and do not provide the range
or power requirements. BAT acquired the US rights to a DC to AC
control unit last year that may give BAT the ability to go head to
head in a future competition: baat.com
The Propulse Corporation is in Slovenia. It has a nice website
(in English) which can be found by websearching for "Propulse".
I think when the BAT website speaks of 50 KW output from this
unit, they may be referring to the "turbo" mode that adds 20%
power for a short time by modifying the sine wave output to a square
wave. 50 Kilowatts is about 66 horsepower @ 756 watts per horse.
