I was in a department store this weekend buying a few dress shirts and ties and I noticed that when the lady was ringing up my purchase that there was an APC BackUPS 280 attached to each register! I asked what the story was. She said that each register is actually a computer that runs on Windows 95 and they are all backed up for obvious reasons (so that the day's info is not lost, so they can open the drawer, etc.). I realized that there is the huge potential for all registers to go digital and eventually be backed up with these low end devices. I don't know how big that market is (it would seem huge) but I have not really heard it discussed by management at all or seen it in any sell side reports. I may ask about it and get back to the board.
