Pete,
i have always suspected most on this thread are more interested in gold as an monitor for how the mining stocks will perform, or the futures market.i think many who will be buying coin/bullion will be doing it for a 5-15 year hold - See W. Buffett's actions of late. I can't see any thing big in these new tax codes,as they change every few years anyway.who knows, there may not even be an income tax in a few years.
it would not be the first time social engineering was brought about via the tax code.
Yes, you may well be reading a little much into the tax code.
i myself, hold a very little bullion, when compared to mining stocks.

I for one got into watching gold and into gold stocks as a (don't
fall off your chair laughing) "safe haven"..I guess I never heard
of the US dollar <; and how valuable paper is
anyways..don't think you are reading anything into that..think you
hit it..it appears that Rubin and company have done everything possible to make people move into equities and paper..even the
Roth IRA..just heard that one of the states..maybe Conn had great
tax receipts..really boosted from tax on stock revenues...
I find it quite interesting though, again if I remember correctly
that Rubin didn't want to sell gold for IMF funding and Rubin didn't
want SS money to be put in the market and Rubin said that if you
invest..you're responsible for the risk..(I guess he wasn't talking
about big financial companies that appear to get bailed out)
Again, since I can't find the sources and am only using recollections
I might have misquoted him...don't know if anybody else out there had
the same impressions or if I am offbase. (Just even the change in
other retirement plans which leaves the worker the stock market since
interest rates etc have been so low)
My "prudence" has really cost me..if one currency fails just move
into another..if one derivative fails move into another..if
