George,

I think the Voice over IP development is making matter very complicated these days. It really blurs the line between Data networks and phone networks. Data networking companies like csco and coms are invading into Phone network business by building IP networks that siphons off long-distance phone calls. But this trend is so new that I don't think it will pose any threat to LU or NT for many years to come.

The only stupid move by cisco is to try to enter the Phone equipment wan switching market. That may anger the like of LU or NT enough that they will be forced to buy a company like coms or cs just to be able to hit back at cisco at his own turf.

LU has revenue of 26 billion, NT has revenue of 16 billion, and Sieman is up there also. So anyone of them is big enough to buy something substantial.

NT has its own share price problem right now so it's very unlikely for it to take a move.

But buying a stock based on some buy-out hopes is always futile - it almost never happens according to what people expects. But of course it doesn't mean you cannot play along with these senseless buyout rumours as we see in ascend.
