Thread, CS is a company specific problem and the effect on BAY should be short-lived. Much more important is Stockman's post pointing to the fact that Cisco has now acknowledged & confirmed Bay Network's strategy, i.e., introducing routing switches & moving routers to the edge for WAN interface. Bay Networks has relayed this strategy roughly 8 months ago. infoworld.com "In addition to its policy software, the company plans to supercharge its hardware offerings with a series of routing switches. The Catalyst 8500 line will include packet- and cell-based switches that can route IP and IPX traffic at wire speed, according to sources familiar with the company's plans. These products, designed for both LAN and WAN applications, will compete against an array of routing switches that promise higher performance than Cisco's flagship 7500 router, and at a lower cost. Cisco is expected to reposition the 7500 as a multiprotocol device for the edge of the network." Corporations can now know for certain that routing switches will be there for a long time. All big 4 vendors now support routing switches, Bay being the first to market and is in full production. Bay's Accelar routing switches should benefit big time. Just some humble opinions.
