John,
I see no way that skin applied med can get to the joint space unless it goes through the general circulation first. The transdermal route is really just a substitute for the oral route with medications (plus the patches have controlled sustained release features). I do not believe that there is any vascular or lymphatic drainage pattern that could allow joint treatment from skin application. So no more threat than the oral drug.

PS. I have been trying to answer these questions on BIOX and ANIK threads all morning on wife's fast MAC but keep getting "error can't load" reply. Frequent problem on the MAC. I have written webmistress but if anyone has a solution to the problem I sure would appreciate it. Thanks.
