All: How are banks advertising or promoting PC banking and billpay in your area? And --what do banks charge?

Here in Washington DC there have been TV ads by Nationsbank promoting PC banking as easy and convenient. They feature a 20-something woman paying a bill with a couple of mouse clicks.

Also, local branches of other banks have promoted PC banking with big, painted banners hanging outside. But I haven't seen many of them lately, come to think of it.

I think the smart banks -- like Citi -- will give it away until a substantial number of people are hooked. Those that charge at first risk losing customers to those who don't. Then -- as they've done with ATMS -- they will be able to get away with charging for it. In about five or 10 years.
