Maxell Introduces New DVD-R, SuperDisk, Printable CD-R Media

Maxell Corporation of America has introduced the DVD-R39 write-once 3.95GB DVD-R disc. The disc is compatible with both DVD-Video players and DVD-ROM drives, and can be used as a master for DVD-ROM and DVD-Video production. It can also be used for archival storage, offering capacity equivalent to 2,700 floppy disks or six CD-R discs. The Maxell DVD-R39 DVD-R disc has a list price of $40.

Maxell is also offering a gold matte surface CD-R74P for black or grayscale inkjet printers, a white surface CD-R74PW for color inkjet printers, and a blank shiny gold surface CD-R74B for custom silk screening. Maxell's entire family of CD-R media features a recording capacity of 650MB (74 minutes) per disc, organic dye recording film material, polycarbonate substrate material, a recording area of 50-116mm, and a full lifetime warranty.

Maxell has also introduced its new SuperDisk (LS-120) diskettes. Featuring 120MB of storage capacity on a 3.5-inch floppy disk, Maxell's SuperDisk offers 83 times the storage capacity of standard 3.5-inch, 1.44MB floppies. The SuperDisk is manufactured with a permanent laser-etched servo pattern, allowing the drive's optical sensor laser beam to precisely read and write 2,490 data tracks per inch (tpi), compared to 135 data tpi for conventional floppy disks. In addition, high-coercivity metal particles and advanced dual-layer coating technology contribute to the high-density recording capabilities of the SuperDisk, which is factory-formatted to save user time. The suggested retail price of one Maxell SuperDisk is $19.99.
