Glenn, I also never buy any protective puts but I appreciate what it is they protect against. I agree if one thinks a stock is getting a haircut, it may be more profitable to sell the shares and buy back in lower. I see protective puts as "Catastrophe Insurance". In the future I will try to avoid catastrophe altogether and exit any meltdowns at the first sign of real trouble (ie:7/97 10k or 8K?).
