Hi James:

The complexities of deploying a constellation of 288
satellites which will be communicating with one another
are phenomenal. Also, upgrades or faulty satellites
will require new launches. By opposition, the Skybridge
system deployed by Loral, Alcatel and their partners is a
''bent-pipe'' system which requires only 64 satellites, and
where all switching will take place in earth-based gateways.
Upgrades will therefore be much easier. The system is also
much cheaper to deploy.

Please go to the Loral/Globalstar/Iridium threads for
more information (the technical information on the Loral
and Globalstar threads is outstanding).

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
