For all you ViaSat fans out there, they announced, at Sat '98, that they have introduced high speed IP networking for the Starwire family of products. This system is capable of 2Mbps connections. They also announced the first customer who will use their product to seamlessly back up their terrestrial frame-relay WAN. Also learned that ViaSat will not be licensing their PCMA technology to other DAMA manufacturers such as Hughes, Gilat, Titan/Linkabit--that is a key move. It will be integrated into Starwire by September. That means that their product will then be light years ahead of the competition.
