Thanks for your response!

Well I think we just have a difference of opinion, and since you don't believe IBM, the International Technology Group, or The Gartner Group I will not try to convince you. You also disagree with Ravi Ganesan on the following:

...He estimates that a distributed UNIX environment would have cost twice as much over the long haul as his centralized mainframe environment.

...Ganesan says it would be obvious even to someone who knew nothing about computers which system would be more reliable.

... NT is far from being a really reliable operating system.

... a distributed UNIX environment would have cost 100% more in support and downtime.

I don't agree with you on Cobol programmers (I'm 30 and could name 50 people or more, around age 30 who are COBOL\DB2 programmers, remember I worked for EDS), there is just a lack of programmers period, including C, Powerbuilder, etc.. I do think your knowledge of Mainframes is lacking, you are probably out of touch with the latest Mainframe Technology.

I know I won't change your opinion, and you change mine, so if you wish to take this discussion further, let's do it in private, before we both get flamed.

p.s. You can code 'C' on the mainframe (C/370).

Spots: Thanks for the response. And thanks to Benny for his rebuttal.

This is the kind of informed discussion that makes SI so great.
