Of course not. I've had tons of products fail:

* Energizer Camcorder Battery. Worked first time, never took a charge after that.

* Car Battery. Died 23 months into a 24 month warranty. LUCKY!

* Replacement Car Battery. Was also bad. (The third one was fine.)

* 17" Monitor. Blew up 18 months into a 12 month warranty. Fortunately, American Express doubled the warranty so it was still covered.

* AT&T Cordless Telephone. Quit working, was still under warranty.

* External Modem. Was out of warranty but only charged $15 to fix it.

That's all I can think of right now. But yes, I've hard lots of things break. One individual's experiences doesn't make a difference, though. It's the percent of the products that go bad (and to an extent, the expected life of the product) that make a difference.

Removable storage devices should be expected to have a lifetime of at least 3-5 years. Most are guaranteed for 1-2 years.

SparQ has a VERY small installed base of under 100,000 drives and has only been on the market for 3 months. To see such a large number of messages on Usenet about problems this soon is a bad sign.

In contrast, Zip has an installed base of over 12,000,000 drives and has been on the market for almost 3 years. There are quite a few messages on Usenet about problems with Zip, but FAR less (as a percent of installed base) than SparQ.
