Well, major reasons are I don't have a tax-deferred IRA
and don't qualify to establish one for 97. These seem
like major barriers to a rollover to me, regardless of
how the taxes are paid. <gg>

Colin, virtually all references I've seen to the 4 year averaging have it as being mandatory NOT optional.

Collin, Thanks for the great input. My question: If I have a loss on an option contract, and then buy another option (same stock) within 30 days, is that a wash sale? Am I supposed to adjust the cost basis of the most recently puchased option?
