Yes, that is certainly the common wisdom
given. But it is interesting to note
that this is exactly the opposite of
what occurs in many cases. Folks just
retired throw it all into stocks,
realizing they have not saved enough,
while some young people like myself
mainly save, knowing that thirty years
of savings will likely be enough
on which to retire.

Probably something in between is
the best course of action--and I've
adjusted more toward owning equities,
and now have a whopping twenty percent
"in the market".

Jack, just saw your post. If it is
our memories which make us, than
my investment strategy much have
been shaped by October 1987, the
first time I paid any attention to
the stock market ;-)
