thanks for the reply. fwiw, i am very aware of the os2 battles (i used to be an os2 user and beta tester), but i was pointing out situations in which there was an established standard product that microsoft came and blew away -- os2 was never an established standard.

Well with that same logic, mark, I'm surprised you didn't recommend General Motors with a 10 P/E or even Ford, with an 8 PE. Makes about as much sense.

Yes, Microsoft is a formidible challege and a competitor that one does not take lightly. However, after listening to Ron Ablemann's comments on the conference call I feel very comfortable with WIND's dominant and expanding business in their core markets. If you had listened to the call you would have heard that Windows CE is not (and probably never will be) a threat to hard real time applications. For example, even if they gave away the software the military wouldn't touch it for their RTOS needs (I asked my husband who works as an engineer for a military lab and he laughed at that one). I am sure that others on this thread could list dozens, if not hundreds of applications that REQUIRE hard RTOS. In those core markets WIND is clearly dominant - they are taking market share from competitors and from in-house, roll your own RTOS. If you are worried that Bill will come up with a competitive hard RTOS - I am sure that many on this thread would argue that that battle would be very hard to win - his best option would be to buy WIND! Read the summaries of the conference call a few posts back and you would learn that Ron made a statement expressing his desire that the competitors be MORE successful to help expand the general market! How many CEOs make that kind of statement!

With regard to Windows CE - I believe that the recent WIND purchases of Navio and Objective Software (?) were with the intent to make a serious entry in Microsoft's market. Who knows how well they will do - but, with the TOP notch, very conservative management WIND has I feel very comfortable paying a 60 trailing PE for a CONSISTENT 45% grower.

p.s. Ron indicated that I20 revenues would start hitting in Q1 - another market that WIND owns!
