Nikkei jumps 229 at the open

TOKYO, March 2 (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks climbed in early morning trade on Monday, with the key Nikkei average rising above the 17,000 level as hopes for additional economic steps by Japan continued to encourage the market, brokers said.

In the first 10 minutes of trade, the Nikkei 225 average was up 219.88 points or 1.31 percent at 17,051.55. It was its first rise above 17,000 since Febuary 13.
