I took a look at a chart of MCD over the last decade. Congratulations! As you already know, your "boring" investment handily beat the S&P 500 Index, and did so without any frighteningly sharp declines.

In contrast, anyone who invested in, say, Apple Computer, over the same time period has had an "interesting" ride on the way toward diminished wealth! Just think of all the corporate turmoil, changes in strategy, and the never-ending suspense of being an Apple shareholder! Will Steve take the Jobs? To Be or not to Be? Think different. How exciting!

Actually, I'll willingly and gladly take the "boring" route of an MCD over the heart-stopping action of an Apple anytime. MCD will be better for my ability to sleep at night and, I'm confident, better for my wallet over the long haul.
