LOCC - And Targeting Weak Cable Operators Outside New York CVUS' 24 February PR release made a big point of touting the merits of CVUS' new LMDS Operation & Communication Center (LOCC) at Brooklyn's Army Terminal. Specifically, they noted its ability to "serve as a specialized LMDS operations and call center for other LMDS operators around the United States." Hiram, it appears that CVUS is indeed targeting areas of opportunity outside NY to deploy their technology and established infrastructure in partnership with interested LMDS auction winners (and in competition with laggard cable operators and local telcos). In theory, LOCC makes a lot of sense, since there is plenty of "dark fiber" available to transmit massive amounts data from Brooklyn to LMDS base locations anywhere in the U.S. (i.e., big fiber eliminates physical distance from, say, Denver, as an economically limiting factor). Question. Is CVUS technology competitive with Lucent, Bosch-Telecom, etc., in the forthcoming national LMDS build-out? Or is LOCC too little, too late?
