To the chartists. Any comments would be welcome. AMAT volume has declined recently. AMAT has traded under 10 million shares per day for each of the past five days, and each day has been successively lower while the market in general has shown some strength. I understand the company-directed share repurchase program was concluded in the last 10 days. I imagine that, despite the relatively current low share price, management is not likely to resume purchases in view of the uncertainty of company sales and may be taking a conservative treatment towards cash. I guess my question is where does the volume play into this 38 point ceiling and 35 point floor. Do you think the company's repurchase program was providing some timely support? AMAT couldn't buy on the upticks so it didn't drive prices higher. I haven't heard of the directors taking action on a new repurchase program, which would be a reportable event. What should we be looking for in volume figures relative to price advances or declines?

Brian, Japan is the biggest basket case of all.... add Japan and you're above 40%.... I hoped my post would be taken in context with my previous posts about Japan which explain this. Japan right now is at braking point, its finacial institutions have negative net worths now and below nikki 15,000 they become unsupportable, and many will go bust. If they go bust credit will disapear from much of asia, and we will have the buying opportunity of life because amat will have nippon elec for lunch... eventually... as you know I was firmly in the everything will be better camp until the conf. call, but the danger of japan was too obvious in amats comments... I think teri and buxx would agree that the fundemental qualification amat provided to their medium term visability was cap spending in japan..
Further this is very dangerous time in general because values in genaral are stretched beyond reason which means bad news will hit hard. I think there is an above even chance we'll get some. It is as simple and non technichal as that. I will buy then... If I miss a boat I'll be able to live with myself, if I lost the substantial paper gains I won't...
