Sharp to Revise FY97 Chip, LCD Production Downward

March 2, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Sharp Corp. is backtracking from its estimate in November of its production of semiconductors and liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for fiscal 1997, which runs through March 1998.
A Sharp representative estimated that the company would produce 252 billion yen (US$1.97 billion) worth of microchips and 228 billion yen (US$1.78 billion) worth of LCDs in the current fiscal year, down from previous estimates, due to falling prices of the devices.

In May 1997, Sharp estimated its production of semiconductors at 260 billion yen (US$2.03 billion). The estimate was revised upward to 265 billion yen (US$2.07 billion) in November 1997 when the company released its midterm settlement of accounts.

Its downward revision cut the initial projection of LCD output from 340 billion yen (US$2.65 billion) to 275 billion yen (US$2.15 billion) at the same time.

>>Skeeter, thanks for the compliment (G). <<

SB will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that was a compliment.

>> It is possible to exchange ideas (as many of us here have been for many moons) without getting unduly personal or characterizing folks as assinine (sic) or worse. <<

srid I know it may be difficult but if you read my post carefully I never said that you were assinine. I said your post was., your perspective on the market was and went to explain why I thougth that way. This was not a personal attack unlike your reponse, which was. I don't know you and you might be a great person or not. I was addressing your comments. There was not a beneifit to that exchange because of your over reaction and inappropriate response. However your infintile response has surely shown everyone on this thread a glimpse of your character, not too pretty. RR
