Local Taiwanese newspaper reports that TI-Acer, a JV between Texas Instrument and Acer Inc. is likely to drop out of DRAM production. Instead of DRAM production, TI-Acer will now use its 8" fabrication plant for IC contract manufacturing. Currently, TI-Acer produces approximately 10 mn units of 16MB SDRAM per month. This news has not been confirmed by either Acer or TI.
