DA, Not sure what the "downside" is. For a while, Pinnacle was selling CD-ROM drives which were just remarked Pinnacle; built by someone else, OEM'd to Pinnacle. I suspect this might be the same concept but have nothing concrete to back up that assumption. Will look into it. Also, $499 seems a little pricey. Check: oracle.uvision.com Street price of a Teac unit $400. As low is this dog is priced, are you just holding to see what happens? Dr. SL
