This is a possible explanation of CPQ's move today.

CPQ is participating in the Merrill Lynch Technology Conference. Their CFO made a presentation today (around 11 am PST). He would not talk about CPQ's sales in February nor discuss their inventory problems. He refused to say anything at all about February's sales. He would only say that the numbers for February are not in yet. When I got this news, the stock was more than 33 and it went into a decline right away. This is my two cents worth.

All info. courtesy of my ML broker. Good Luck

Andreas: Possible explanations.
1.Profit Taking in the tech sector, hardly none of the majors are spared.

2.Long bond I hear,has tested 6% or a little bit above,thereby making
it a bit more attractive and besides bonds are heck of a lot safer and
6% is not bad for the big-guys who already made a ton of money in the
stock market.

3.Sell programs

However I don't think the ML technology conference in which CPQ participated has much to do with it. I don't expect Eckhard to know the sales figures for Feb yet,my god it's only March 2nd,what do those idiots expect??? It takes a little while to close the books and come up with the numbers.

Just some thoughts,I could be wrong.

I have read that Compaq is having inventory problems. Too much inventory on hand. I suspect Compaq's decreasing computer prices to get rid of some of that inventory. Money magazine ranks Compaq as their #1 high tech picks. One analysts predicts a 50% stock increase this year!
