As a customer of both the Sales and Service Enterprise, my initial thoughts on this merger are not positive. My primary concerns are related to future product direction. Will SCOP's products be reengineered to Siebel's data model and technical architecture? Or will the two stay separate, yet be integrated? After Siebel bought that internet news provider last year (I forget the name of the company -- I think it was 'Interworks'), they completely reengineered it to conform to Siebel's data model. I think they still have tons of outstanding work to add Siebel tools. This was a diddly product in comparison to Scopus' product line.

Siebel is suddenly now a much larger company with more employees in more locations. To my knowledge, Tom Siebel has no track record of successfully integrating people, organizations and products of this scale. I wonder about costs as well. Siebel has Informix's x-CFO to implement financial conrols across a much larger enterprise.

On the flip-side, an exploding market with little competition could easily forgive all of these potential sins. I think the future will hold a bumby road forward.
