Callaway Golf Center If some friends said that they had quite a day doing various fun activities, such as taking a golf lesson from one of the supreme teaching programs in the world; hitting practice balls to 10 different greens; playing a nine-hole round of golf; receiving a full club evaluation, which then prompted a trip to the pro shop for a new set of clubs; having lunch in a beautiful restaurant; smashing a baseball over the wall at Boston's Fenway Park Green Monster; climbing into a NASCAR speedster for a turn or two around the track; and finally skating in a super ice rinkÿ all in the same 65-acre area, one might wonder if they were losing it or just telling a tall tale. But it could very well happen at the Callaway Golf Center, situated in the All-American Sport Park. This amazing place is open to the public and located at Sunset Road. and Las Vegas Boulevard South. The man behind the project is Ron Boreta, the son of Voss Boreta, founder of Las Vegas Discount Golf and Tennis. Thirteen years ago Ron formed Saint Andrews Golf Corp., and he currently is developing this multi-faceted sports-action themed park. Phase One of the project, the Callaway Golf Center, is completed, featuring a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse that houses the St. Andrews Golf Shop and a restaurant with inside or outside patio dining; the Callaway Performance Center; the David Ledbetter Golf Academy; plus the 113-tee, two-tiered driving range with 10 greens to hit, surrounded by a superb 9-hole, par 3 golf course, the Divine Nine. Phase Two, the Sports Entertainment Complex is on the way. It will feature a 100,000-square-foot sports pavilion, housing the interaction sports bar and restaurant, Game Time Arcade, a major sports retail store, food courts and other speciality retail shops. Surrounding the pavilion will be a full-sized replica composite of major league baseball parks for batting and training, and the NASCAR Speed Park, where drivers can compete on three different tracks in scaled NASCAR stock car replicas. Phase Three, scheduled for a 1998 summer opening, will feature a two- rink indoor ice arena. PGA pro Jeff Jones is director of golf activities at the center and coordinates the driving range, Callaway Performance Center, David Ledbetter Golf Academy and the Divine Nine. The condition and sportiness of the par 27 layout, is where the holes vary in length from 116 to 175 yards, with ten 20,000-square-foot greens. The course was designed by world-renowned architect, Robert Cupp.
