thanks for the thread, i've learned a great deal today.
question:
1. who are the companies that are servicing this problem in the U.S. and europe?

2.are imbedded systems used in any financial or banking hardware?

3. will this problem carry over to euro conversion infrastructure?

thanks in advance for any info regarding the questions.

Thanks for the plug, Cheryl. I'm doing four columns for Westergaard
Year 2000 week, each column builds upon the prior one. Tuesday's
is already up but the front page link is not there until tomorrow.

One Year 2000 Embedded Systems Expert In Core Infrastructures Speaks Out Anonymously
by Roleigh Martin

In addition, I highly recommend this new embedded systems Y2k
report from Real-Time Engineering Ltd who authored the below
report for the UK HSE department on Safety and Year 2000 -- it
fully is devoted to the problem of safety when embedded systems
safety devices fail and how to trouble shoot the problems. A
most excellent document and definitely worth the price.

Dear Mr Martin

Thank you for your request for a copy of the Safety in the year 2000
report ISBN 0717614913.

HSE is currently trialling an on-line ordering service whereby
customers order a publication using a credit card and the next day,
they are able to download it. The publication we are using to test
this new method of ordering is the above report. It can be ordered
through hsebooks.co.uk and is priced at 15.00 pounds
sterling. Which incidentally is what a hard copy would cost (plus P
and P).

If this method of ordering proves successful HSE will eventually make
all it's guidance notes available this way.

If you have any problems ordering the contact in HSE is: Sandie Brown
who you'll be able to at:

sandie.brown@hse.gov.uk

If you want a hard copy please contact HSE Books, PO Box 1999,
Sudbury, Suffolk, CO10 6FS, England Tel: +44 1787 881165 or Fax: +44
1787 313995

Yours sincerely
Paul Middlemas
