Overbought averages often take a while to come back. However, If I remember my Dow Theory correctly (and it's very rusty) the Utility Average leads the Industrials by a short period of time. Generally a few months, I think.

So, therefore, if they do sell off then Dow Theory argues that the Industrials are next.

I could be in error on this, I have not looked at Dow Theory in years.

Gee Wiz Beeble, just when I thought I'd seen everything you post a site that has traffic light colors for investing. What will they think of next...

Actually I'm waiting for someone to implement an idea I posted here a long time ago... it goes like this.

The "waves" of a stock's forward ups and downs remind me of surfing. Just like in surfing, you make money when you're on the forward slope of the wave and lose money when you stay on your board and either fall behind the crest or stay on the wave when it crashes.

So I imagine a virtual reality device that translates a stock's or indexe's cyclic amplitude as horizon, velocity and price speed into a real time image of a series of waves upon which one surfs in sync with and according to the data stream. A small voice response system will issue trading commands that either put you on or takes you off the wave. The distance and velocity of travel are proportional to the investment and percentage gain. Hang on buckaroo!... 9:30AM surf's up! A lot more exciting than sitting at a terminal.
