D, This product is a Cd Rom drive that can write to blank media (blank Cd Disks) and it also can read any CD like a program etc. It can be useful for backing up data or recording music files if you are a recording artist. The drive will read 4 and write 2 speed. If you get catalogs and who don't, look up one and read on it. That will give you a better idea of what P. Micro is selling. Going on the different companies who are marketing their drives it appears to be higher priced. There are drives that read 2 and write 2 so they are cheaper of course. But Teac is selling the same drive as P. Micro for 100.00 less. That is enough to sway the opinion of a purchaser for sure. Hope this helps some, Dusty
