Bill - Re: " Intel can only be overthrown, it cannot get much bigger"

People said that a few years ago.

Guess what happened?

Let's look at Total Revenue for the past four years (I'll skip Total profits - it is too embarrassing for AMD!) - all numbers in Billions of Dollars.

............1994.......1995.......1996.......1997

AMD.....2.12........2.5.......2.0........2.3

Intel.......11.5........16.2......20.9.......25.1

Now for some math.

In 4 years, AMD's sales have risen 8.5% for a 2.5% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR).

In 4 years, Intel's sales have risen 182.6% for a CAGR of 22.5% CAGR .

Now will Intel stop growing?

Does Intel have a major yield problem in their ONLY major Fab?
Does Intel have NO NEW products due out in the next year?
Does AMD have customers that are NOT also Intel customers?
Does Intel have customers that are NOT ALSO AMD customers?
Does Intel have the highest performance Desktop x86 CPUs?
Does Intel have the ONLY x86 Server CPUs?
Does Intel have the ONLY x86 WORKSTATION CPUs?
Does Intel have the highest performance AND lowest power Mobile x86 CPUs?
Will the x86 Desktop, Server and Workstation ,markets continue to grow this year and next year and the year after next?
Will Intel add Fabrication Capacity during 1998, 1999 and 2000?

Consider the above before concluding Intel cannot continue to grow.
