Jim,
A couple of weeks ago my husband and younger son, Ammo, went to the Keys to dive for a science project. As they drove through the islands, they noticed the languid pace of life, the casual dress, the 70s feel--all very laid back, working as little as you liked, doing what you loved. My husband commented that this is what was called "dropping out" of life. Ammo looked at him puzzled and said, "How do you know they haven't just figured out what life is supposed to be?"
Dan said he was chastened by his son's ability to see this and saddened that the years had somehow stolen this perspective from him.
