Reb--I know I have held of shorting MSFT.
I probably owe you an explanation. Like all shorts I constantly get mail from people (mostly widows and orphans of course) begging me not to short their stock. These people realize the awesome power of shorting to pound good companies into pulp. You may be skeptical of this power but I can show you any number of posts here in SI of very sophisticated investors talking about the terrible damage that shorts do to utterly splendid companies. Despite some distorted slandering propaganda I am not totally heartless, I have been responding to these old biddies and Sally Struther pen pals and telling them that I wouldn't short Microsoft so if they wanted to keep their money safe they could invest there. So out of the kindness of my heart I have held off pulling the trigger on MSFT. This is one of the principal reasons the company has become so popular as a investment. Unfortunately the company has used this grace period to buy up and foul up my E-mail service. It may have to be done. If I decide to pound them I will let you have first go.
