OT****re: <<Ever hear of terms like slamming? >> Yes, it's illegal in ANY industry. I believe their are PLENTY of authorities that deal with policing that issue...the FCC isn't needed there. <<Ever attempt to make a long distance telephone call from outside your home state without a phone card>> I don't believe I'm incorrect in this assumption, but aren't calling cards pretty much available to the masses??? Oh, and I can't turn on the damn TV without seeing a 1-800-COLLECT add... If someone is SO out of touch they can't figure these things out, then I'm sorry, they should stay at home and shouldn't be making long distance calls from another location! <<ever try and charge a third person call from a remote location.>> WHY???? calling cards.... <<Ever accept a collect long distance call only to find out several weeks later that it was place thru several different carriers that each tacked on a 100% cost.>How can ANY consumer be THAT uninformed at this point? By the way, I wouldn't accept a collect call that wasn't an EXTREME emergency. <<Ever try and explain to an elderly person how their phone charges were calculated?>> My 83 year old grandmother has been around long enough to calculate her phone charges. I actually find your assumption that the "elderly" isn't intelligent enough to figure out a phone bill somewhat offensive to the elderly people with whom I associate. Maybe I should give them your email address...yes, they're intelligent enough to use the internet! <<Competition is supposed to encourage increased technology advancements and from my perspective that has not happened. >> How can you possibly make this assessment? You are clearly not following any of the communications stocks on this thread! Oh, and by the way, I just answered my digital phone, which provides FREE long distance in my region. Further, I was able to actually use caller ID to see if I wanted to answer it in the first place. If I didn't choose to, it would have gone into my voice mail, at which time I could have accessed it via a 1-800 number from anywhere in the known world. Nah, we haven't had any technological advances..... <<Have you actually worked in these situations or just passing on hearsay?>> One of my clients is very big in the communications industry. He not only sets up billing systems for the wireless industry, but also buys frequencies throughout the US and sets up towers which he leases to the major wireless carriers. I have at least 3 phone calls a week at the office and one or two at home regarding what long distance providers can offer. I also analyze stocks in this industry. <<Greg our phone service is not getting better, not by along shot. The telephone industry has gone steadily down hill since Judge Greens land mark decision>> That's almost equivalent to saying our pharmaceutical industry has gone steadily downhill since the 80's. Come on.... I can get long distance rates at 10 cents a minute (from many different carriers). Further, more than one local provider is available in my area.... Wireless service is phenomenal. I can get digital service (with a free Nokia phone) for about 8 cents per minute. Also, I can even call long distance via the internet! How in the hell has the communications industry gone down hill??? I don't think you have a leg to stand on. As you stated, just my opinion. greg
