Try calling Dell and asking them to install Netscape instead of IE. I have. They will tell you they don't provide it. You have a choice, a computer with IE, or a computer with no browser. They tell you that you can use IE to get on the internet, and than download Netscape.I wonder why that is?

Now, for those in the world, like me, who think of computers as tools and have no desire to get into the inner workings of them, once I have a working browser, I doubt very much I am going to the trouble to install another one. Hence is the beauty and ugliness of MSFT and their operating system stratagy. They know this and thus bundle anything in that they feel they wish to take over.

I have always had two arguements that, to me, make all the sense in the world.
1) If MSFT agues that they are just " giving consumers value" by this bundleing, why not include Excel and Word? Just charge a bit more. (The answer is profit and the fear of the DOJ.)
2) What does an operating system have to do with aps? An operating system should be unknown, unseen, and simply a blank page that makes the computer work. Everthing else should be purchased seperately.

What we have here is the vision of the future according to Bill. This vision does not include any competition.

This is one reason I am investing in SUN. I have a gut feeling that the world is turning against MSFT, and that sooner or later the DOJ will break them up. This should assist Sun no end. But even if it doesn't, its a good company.

By the way, I am writing this on a Windows machine. Not by choice, but by necessity. Kinda sums it up.
