Hiram, good article. Last summer, I visited one of the power companies mentioned in this article on a job interview. I interviewed with one of the persons mentioned in the article. They had a very good operation, and will no doubt take a chunk out of the incumbent telco's business over time. However, I lost some confidence in them when there was a power outage, and the building lost power for over half an hour right when my interview started. There wasn't even much of a rainstorm outside. Now, this was at the main headquarters office building for a power company...I was dying to ask them about central office reserve power plants - one of my favorite topics, but I didn't want to seem like a wise guy.
