The Polaris 2500 is out. A great addition for use in .18 micron level technology and 300mm processes.

Joe thanks for the links to the articles. I haven't read them yet but will later tonight.

The copper depositing is supposed to bring a leap in processor speeds much sooner than expected. I heard from a friend that IBM will make PowerPC chip that will be something. It is supposed to blow away the current G3 cpu within a year.

One thing when a cpu gets that fast, you can emulate almost any operating system without much loss in performance. For Instance, the new BEOS system can emulate a Mac OS on the new G3 cpu with previous PowerPC performance.

BEOS and Rhapsody are coming out and are to run on Intel systems.
Windows 95 is a flawed operating system, and is near its end.
This means that within 2 years, the operating systems war can start again. I think that's why Gates made a move to buy into Apple. If NT can't get better in time, he's going to be hurting. Right now NT is a bear to use and can hardly be expected to be a mainstream operating system without much improvements.

Any leap frogging in technology can accelerate all of the above. Intel is secretly scrambling right now. Competition is catching up and they can't control product timing and pricing as they had.

The PC platform is also in a big hurt because of the ancient IRQ based hardware handling. The industry can't seem to agree on a standard for the next generation of hardware handling.

All of this confusion is converging to the same point in time. This is going to add to the competition and the excitement. We might have all new market leaders in a few years. Apple could take the operating system side of things. IBM could allie with others to make Intel a second tier company. Or totally unknown companies could emerge.

All of this is going to add to the boom in technology. All of this competition is going to drive prices lower and get technology into more hands and into more devices.

Of course companies like FSII, SFLX and AFLX are going to benefit big time. Companies are going to need quick turn around product developments and are going to have to farm out production to stay competitive. I think that's why ECM is expected to have rising great growth rates over the next few years.
