Jim, That might be true in the USA, we pay more in Canada. but you are right we are heading for a complete all in one basic system and if you include modem, sound, VGA and all I/O you can make a minimum cheap system. This has been tried an failed before as the versatile systems beat tham as you were stuck with the VGA/Audio you had. Some allowed you to diable it for an offboard Modem, but some had zero slots or only two butterfyl style. but to make it go all the way down to a net vcr you will need a fully integrated mobo. I suspect the home appliance market will go that way, as a small low profile box with 1 floppy a hard drive and no slots, but they will have an accessory fire wire port, which is fast enough to serve most audio and telco apps, video ??, 400 MBS might just do it as long as their was no traffic jam on the wire. Should also have a 100 base T port. What is the minimal parts count for a 100 base T port on board?, anyone know this?
