Graham / Talisman Energy - Gulf Canada Resources

These two companies operate in the same regions worldwide. I've often drawn comparisons in the past.

I would not like to see Talisman buy out Gulf in its entirely. The North Sea assets would be a good deal. What would also be great, would be to buy controlling shares in the Indonisian Gulf Operations.

Sure does sound like Buckley is attempting to open the door on a friendly basis. However, at the time of the article - it was stated they were not in contact on the subject. New Gulf CEO comments about sharks beating on their doors in response to Buckley's comments might of reflected an attitude.

I think there is a whole lot going on behind closed doors in the oil patch. With the expense of operations being high and on the increase, companies will be thinking aquisitions may be the way to go to add reserves, production and cash flow. Companies that took this route last year mistimed this activity. Now is the time and it is ripe for the companies that have the cash flow and respectable debt.
