RE:Our new 5010 model, the new Orion product, the ArFl laser model that we introduced in late 1997.

He was listing different products. The 5010, Orion, and ArF laser. Orion is scheduled for introduction in Q3, while their ArF laser was introduced in '97 as the notes say. Trust me on this. Orion is a 248nm laser. There is not a large market for 193nm lasers right now, so it's actually a good thing that Orion is KrF since the optics technology is already out there to support the product.

If you email IR, they will probably confirm Orion is a KrF laser. I bug them enough as it is. <G>

The exposure optics challenges they are referring to are the wafer stepper optics. The materials must change from the fused silica currently in use to some crystalline material which is transparent to 193nm light. CaF2 (calcium fluoride) appears to be the focus of activity for this material. It has many properties which are less friendly to lense makers / optics designers which must be overcome. Before those guys get to do their job, the bulk material must be available in optics grade which requires more , better, cleaner furnaces to produce. Big infrastructure change. So was the change to DUV from I line , but this one is bigger.
The good news is that contacts who attended SPIE believe that 248 nm (KrF laser) will extend to 150 nm devices. So CYMER should be printing money for a long time.
