Jim, I have no position in Compaq. I just don't care for people spreading misinformation(re: unit sales), since it destroys any value these boards have.

I just happened to stop by the thread 'cuz it's the hot story of the day. Please try to be more accurate with respect to facts in the future.

Well Jim it is like this, this Painter girl was so gung-ho on Compaq it didn't do a damn thing to the stock price to her surprise (talk about clout!),then she figured,hey 'I try downgrading the stock,then just may be I can make a name for myself' and some cash for Merrill', so she did and Merrill did as well from the looks of it. It's all about creating volatility, commissions,self-affirmation (like you don't know about that already.),ego-trips etc and less about the prospects of a company,it's fundamentals,the potential growth prospects of the industry or anything like that. Read that article in Fortune about 'Who moves the market',the link to the article i have posted before in an earlier post today.
