BB, >When one suspects that they are hiking into BEAR country...<

You knew I'd react to your bear stories sooner or later.<vbG>
It seems I heard when running away from a bear, you only have
to outrun the other runners - not the bear.

BB: Seriously, I've enjoyed mixing it up with you guys (the cautious sector). No doubt this thread is blessed with many intelligent people. Work is such that I must leave you all alone for a while. Good luck and see ya at the bank. <ggg>

When one suspects that they are hiking into BEAR country it is a good idea to be very watchful, lest one be overtaken and consumed by the bear. Caution is the key,and paying attention to the trail and the
surrounding terrain (always being vigilant). Being nimble and fast maneuvering, or avoiding the bear, is the way to survive.

I thought the idea was to make a lot of noise to keep the bear away. AMAT thread participants have been doing their part!!

BB

If you are in BEAR territory, keep banging 2 sticks together in front of you as you move. The noise will scare the bears away.

Did you hear about the two hikers who came upon a bear?
One hiker started to tie his laces tighter and the other said
he was wasting his time,he couldn't outrun a bear.
as the first hiker started to take of he replied, I don't have to
outrun the bear, just you!
That's what have to do, pick the right stock to be out front.
I've been reading for over a year here and appreciate the good
info. Let's keep it civil. This story seemed to fit. Bill
