While we are on the topic of the Valley Telephone Cooperative that has begun offering PAIR-based xDSL... I spoke with their Chairman, Charlie Gowder, about 1 month ago... that was after learning that they would be providing PAIR-based xDSL in the area between San Antonio Tx and the Border... since I live in the middle of it, Corpus Christi, I figured I might be able to get me some HDSL for cheap... but as it turns out, since I am a Southwestern Bell customer, I cannot get this service... Mr. Gowder told me that their rollout of this service was quite limited, since they are in fact a small company... but more importantly, that his company was the first, small regional cooperative that provides this service in the us... Of importance however, he said that along with being the first, this also meant that they had to overcome several regulatory hurdles... and this of course takes some time... yet, since he had already obtained the permits a-z, he had subsequently given the model of how to roll-out HDSL for these small cooperatives to the PAIRgain salespeople... the objective being that they could in turn use this as a selling tool... ie, PAIR gain tells other small telephone cooperatives something like this, "we know its difficult to get the regulatory clearance, but this is a model for you to follow"... I hope this is of some relevance to somebody... As for myself, I am going to hold PAIR till $100, hopefully within 5 yrs I will be able to sell at this price... but we shall see. As for the day to day fluctuations of PAIR, I don't care about them nor do I worry about the company... xDSL is here, and its here to stay, and there will be enough for everyone... Jp
