Wal-Mart Canada Announces 1998 Expansion Plan

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. (Dow Jones)--Wal-Mart Canada Inc. announced the second phase
of its 1998 expansion plan which includes new Wal-Mart store locations in
Toronto, Niagara Falls, Ont. and Sherwood Park, Alta., as well as the relocation
of its Edmonton South store to a new location.

In a news release, Wal-Mart Canada said the four new stores will open this
fall, and together will generate about 400 jobs during construction and will
employ more than 420 associates.

The company noted it will also open two previously announced stores in Ajax,
Ont. and Brampton, Ont. later this month.

The company said the Toronto store will be a 130,000 square foot free-standing
store. It said about 100 jobs will be created through construction of the store,
which when open will employ 180 associates.

Wal-Mart Canada said the Niagara Falls store will be a 105,000 square foot
free-standing store. It said more than 100 construction jobs will be created for
local contractors, and added that when complete, the store will employ more than
120 associates.

In Sherwook Park, Wal-Mart Canada said it will open a 105,000 square foot
free-standing store that will employ more than 120 associates. It said more than
100 jobs will be created for local companies during construction.

The company said it will relocate its Edmonton South store to a new 130,000
square foot free-standing store. It said about 100 jobs will be created for
local construction companies, and noted that all 250 associates at the store's
present site will be offered employment at the new location.

Wal-Mart Canada is a unit of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), Bentonville, Ark.
