Compaq and Lucent Internet Telephony Server To help companies lower long distance phone charges by using available bandwidth on their intranets, Compaq will demonstrate new IP(a) telephony gateways from Lucent Technologies running on Windows NT and Compaq ProLiant servers. The Lucent Internet Telephony Server (ITS) and Compaq platforms packetize voice and fax signals received from PBX or Key Systems, and transport them across an enterprise's intranet instead of over the Public Switched Network or other private networks. This cost-saving, server-based solution supports H.323 client interoperability and is compatible with existing telecommunications systems, including telephones, faxes and switches.
