Jeffrey.. My view of the photomask prospects are driven by the demand for chips, and the complexity of the chips demanded...and very little by WHO makes the chips, nor WHERE they are made. In a VERY simplistic view of things, FINAL DEMAND drives the manufacture of chips...and if the Koreans can't supply Any..well, chip usage will fall very, very little. We might see a couple of mothballed Fabs coming back into use, and some "Rush" equipment sales for AMAT, Novellus and a couple of test equipment companies, but the chips WILL get made somewhere if there is end use demand for them.. So the photomasks will get made also..All IMHO, of course.
Also, IMHO, Jeffrey, if you can foresee a cyclical low of $.40 even for a quarter, I'd sell the stock, frankly.. I bought it with NO such view of the possibilities...and in fact would move the money into a variety of better prospects.. DPMI should not be a cyclical stock going forward, in my view. The days of simple RAM chips is over... The new RAM chips are more demanding of masks, and the ASICs are MUCH more demanding of masks... For me, DPMI is a Growth stock supporting a cyclical growth industry...where unit volume is still climing. NOTE: Kurlak's negative view today was based in the fact that PC unit volume will fall to a growth rate of 15%!...
COMPARISON: When the PC guys sell higher unit volumes of sub 1000 PCs, they can make LESS money on HIGHER volume... But bring in Microsoft...on that SAME volume, they sell $60 worth of software..for the expensive machine and the cheap machine... MSFT is a GROWTH company, supporting a cyclical growth industry.. IMHO....DPMI likewise...and no $.40 quarters.. TSO
