Mitch- At the risk of appearing as a "great gaseous windbag" in your eyes, I will address your apology- only I'm not sure exactly for what you are apologizing. If your apology meant only that you consider that I might be only a "lessor gaseous windbag", then that's simply not enough, and I would reject such an apology. You have seen fit to participate- even lead the charge- in some sort of mass mugging and character assassination with no attempt to provide an underlying rationale for your attacks. That says quite a bit about your character. As your chosen victim, I must say that an unspecific apology does not quite atone for your paragraphs of vapid, hateful invective- but it does show a trace of character, and I appreciate that. I will hope- and assume unless you indicate otherwise- that your apology extends to being part of gang mugging in which you and fellow thugs traduced my character without so much as an attempt at justifying your words. But if I ever see you engaged in that kind of activity again, I will go after you with all the power I can muster. <<Some opinions and arguments will not stand up to a rigorous scrutiny, some will. However, I would venture that even the ones that don't are valuable because they reflect the mindset of fellow investors, which is also useful information>> Posters are free to express wrong opinions- I for one value the exchange of ideas that SI can promote. But editorialists also must expect to be challenged and I expect that they can offer a justification for their opinions- whether I agree with them or not. This imbroglio had its roots in debate on Mohan's thread in which I was engaged in which a poster issued strong condemnation of my country but declined to offer anything other than gibberish in the way of justification. Unchallenged, opinions such as his develop a certain patina of legitimacy- challenged, he was unmasked as having nothing to substantiate his opinions, or even the ability to address the issue intelligently. Impressively, the guy earns his living as a stockbroker. << But the debate should serve to expand everyone's knowledge, and flesh out arguments. The debate should not be used as an I-beat-you ego trip.>> I don't quite know to what- if anything- in my posts you are referring. Again, you are rather non-specific. In my debate on Mohan's thread I believe I made my points intelligently, and sustained an attempt to draw an intelligent rebuttal from the other side. When he proved incapable of doing so- indeed simply responded with irrelevancies-, I implied he was a fool, and I think I had ample justification for doing so. After all, he was expressing opinions on great issues of the world, and ultimately it appeared he had nothing but his own prejudice to back him up. On this thread, the mugging in which you so merrily participated began with this comment from me: "I find your post devoid any ideas that I can address". Curiously, the person to whom I directed it gave no evidence of objecting. He simply responded later with some ideas that I could address- but have not because of the firestorm I have faced. That moronic character assassinator, Thommaso, then began a steady stream of poisonous invective that, impressively attracted more participants such as yourself. <<Of course, I am guilty ten-fold of personal attacks.>> Yes, you are. As your victim, I really do not want anything to do with you. In my opinion, you have a long way to go before you become a civilized human being- but I see the potential for you to become one. Larry P.S. Unlike some on SI, I simply do not enjoy flames. However, with what I consider ample cause, I will state my opinion of someone's intelligence- or lack thereof. I think that is a reasonable position.
