re: <<However, with all due respect I defer to agree with your statement, "First The CFO of a company would never tell you something was Weak." Why not if it is true? Have you never heard of investor class action suits against corporations as a result of false statements made by executives>>

This may clarify what I mean on this point.

When the head guys from a co talk, people listen. When a co has bad first month, and the guys think they can still save the quarter, they will not say anything negative.
Say the second month goes poorly, they may still say nothing negative, Why kill the stock price and upset our shareholders when we still think we can save the quarter.
Now with 2 weeks to go in the quarter, they know they ain't gonna make it. Well over the next 4 weeks we will get the pronouncements from the companies that ain't gonna make it.
What I am referring to is the high probability IMO that many of these companies that don't make it, knew 2-4-8 weeks ago that they were not going to make it, but they thought if maybe one of their sales people closes a great deal then maybe it could happen. Basically they were hoping for a merrical until it does not come.

Management can get into just as much trouble for crying wolf prematurely as not mentioning it at all.

I hope this clarifies thing
